Harbor Village hosts artists” demonstrations
LUCERNE — Free demonstrations take place from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Harbor Village Artists Complex, at 6197 Highway 20 in Lucerne.
The Gourd Gallery will show how to make a shakere, a percussion musical instrument using a gourd covered with beads, by Sandie Coelho-Davis.
Serendipity Art & Boutique will feature two artists. John Eells will show watercolor techniques of a vignette and Linda Solomon will demonstrate the many ways to tie scarves.
Pomo Fine Art Gallery will show how to weave dogbane string using the inner bark of the plant and twisting it into two-ply string used for fishing, bow strings, mats and weaving baskets.
Lakeside Art will demonstrate how to create an oil painting from a photograph.
Book fair scheduled for Oct. 9 in Middletown
MIDDLETOWN — Friends of the Middletown Library is having its semi-annual book fair, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 on the front lawn of the Middletown Library, located on the corner of Calistoga and Callayomi streets in downtown Books will be sold by the bag at a bargain price of $5 per bag. A special sale of paperbacks will go for $3 per bag. Books for sale include: best sellers, children”s, mysteries, spy intrigue, romance, cookbooks, self help, reference, audio tapes, CDs and some surprise offerings. All proceeds are for the purchase of new books and supplies for the library and the new Library Building Fund.
Tickets on sale for Soper-Reese fundraiser
LAKEPORT — On Oct. 16, the Soper-Reese Community Theatre will have its fifth annual fundraiser. The Harvest Moon Dinner and Dance event will take place at the theater, located at 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with wine and hors d”oeuvres in the newly landscaped courtyard, weather permitting. Guests will be served a four-course dinner and local wines with catering provided by Blue Wing Saloon and Caf?. Live and silent auctions will take place followed by dancing with music provided by John Parkinson and the Mendocino Big Band.

LAKE COUNTY — Tickets to “Rocky Horror Show” are available at $25 for VIP sofa seating, $20 for reserved seating and $15 for general seating. Cost of general seating is $12 for seniors, students and members of Lake County Theatre Company.

Poetry Out Loud invites school participation
LAKE COUNTY — For the fourth year, the Lake County Arts Council will participate in Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation contest that is sponsored by the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.
Students in grades nine through 12 have an opportunity to memorize selected poetry and recite it in a competition that begins in the classroom, moves to the school level, to county-wide competition and to state competition. The state winner proceeds to a national competition in Washington, D.C. with all expenses paid. Scholarship dollars and school awards are made at the state and national levels.
