CLEARLAKE — Savion Nkosi Hays, 21, of Orange County was arrested around 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Clearlake Police Department on charges related to elder abuse and threats.
According to Sgt. Tim Hobbs, Hays, for about the past 10 days, took up temporary residence in Clearlake at the home of an 85-year-old woman, where he had access to the woman”s personal and financial information. During that time, Hays allegedly threatened to kill the woman on several occasions. In addition, Hobbs said several witnesses reported that Hays made his two-year-old daughter forcibly consume marijuana.
“It appears that Hays, possibly in an attempt to cover his own actions, reported various crimes against another elderly person by that person”s caregiver, who is the grandson of the woman he was staying with,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs said in contacting the woman Hays was staying with, officers learned of the threats and the other criminal actions concerning Hays” daughter. He said Hays was arrested on Tuesday when he attempted to secure a restraining order against the woman”s grandson.
Hobbs said according to witnesses, the child”s mother, Tasha Kelley, 21, of Orange County was present when the child was allegedly forced to smoke marijuana. He said possible arrest of Kelley is pending.
