CLEARLAKE — The rock ”n” roll band, Without a Net will perform Saturday at the KPFZ Blues and Barbecue Fundraiser. The band presents a collection of vintage rock ”n” roll standards, as well as original songs.
Herb Gura began playing drums at age 12 in New York City. He moved to Lake County in 1977. He has a talk show on KPFZ 88.1 FM and serves on the Konocti Unified School District Board of Trustees, where he advocates for music in the schools.
Heidi Morgan is a professor and counselor at Yuba College”s Clear Lake Campus. A classically trained pianist and chorale singer, Morgan said she discovered the joys of playing rock ”n” roll when she joined the band some six years ago.
Bill Bordisso teaches fourth grade at Lower Lake Elementary School. Bordisso said he has been making music for as long as he can remember. Bordisso plays three saxes, percussion, accordion and acoustic guitar.
A professional guitarist since age 17, Art Frazee said he knows just about every rock song ever written. He said he plays music at a local church on Sundays and wherever else he can.
Carl Stewart plays lead and rhythm guitar. Stewart said he moved to Lake County after achieving rock star status in L.A., nabbing a contract with Warner Bros. and earning a degree in opera. He is the most recent member of the band.
Bill MacDougall is the superintendent of Konocti Unified School District and plays rock ”n” roll bass. MacDougall said he has dedicated his life to kids and community and music helps him keep his sanity as he works to make Lake County and the world a better place.
Without a Net”s set list includes each band member”s picks in favorite and most-danceable tunes, From Bob Dylan to Bob Marley to the Doors.
Original songs by Stewart, Gura, Frazee and MacDougall round out the set list with world beat rhythms and clever lyrics.
After some seven years of jamming on just about every stage in Lake County and a little beyond, all six band members said they are having fun playing together and smile a lot.
