KELSEYVILLE — Oscar Martinez scored twice and added an assist and the Kelseyville High School varsity boys” soccer team held off the Lower Lake Trojans 5-3 in a North Central League I North game on Thursday in Kelseyville.
Nearly all the scoring took place in the first half as the Knights built a 4-3 lead.
“We had the first half controlled but we made a couple of mistakes and they took advantage,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said.
The Knights had to go to their bench in the second half as three starters came out of the game with minor injuries, including keeper Jonathan Cruz.
Wenceslao Rojas and Cesar Arroyo each had a goal and an assist for Kelseyville. Luis Rodriguez also scored.

Girls” soccer
St. Vincent 3, Clear Lake 0
At Lakeport, defending NCL I South champion St. Vincent shut out the Clear Lake Cardinals.
Shannon Carroll, Maddie Perry and Natalia Sumodjo scored for the Mustangs, who led 2-0 after one half.
“We played well,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “The game was closer than the score shows.”
Kelseyville 8, Lower Lake 3
At Kelseyville, Sabrina Lyon, Reme Rico and Linda Olvera scored two goals apiece to lift the Kelseyville Knights to their first win of the season against the Lower Lake Trojans.
Amanda Santana and Shannon Fontana also scored for the Knights, now 1-1 in the NCL I North standings and 1-5 overall.
Olvera”s goals were the first two of her high school career and Santana, a defender, also notched her first high school goal.
“They played as a team,” Kelseyville coach Christie Fricke said. “They passed, they communicated.”
Kelseyville led 4-2 after one half.
Volleyball
Clear Lake def. Middletown
At Middletown, Vanessa Tullos had 11 kills on only 22 arm swings and the Clear Lake Cardinals made quick work of the Middletown Mustangs, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18, in NCL I interlock volleyball action.
Rebecca Baker turned in another strong effort for Clear Lake with nine kills and four blocks.
“We finally decided to be scrappy again and it was nice to see,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said.
“It was just a tough night,” Middletown coach Suzanne Riccio added of the Mustangs” performance.
Cloverdale def. Lower Lake
At Cloverdale, no passing game meant no win for the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I interlock play against the Cloverdale Eagles, who rolled to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-23 victory.
“We have some good hitters but we can”t get them the ball,” Lower Lake coach Danessa Udy said. “Our passing tonight was atrocious.”
Kelsie Shoffeitt led Lower Lake with six kills while Amber Daniels and Veronica Wilder each had four kills and three aces.
