LOWER LAKE — Thanks to the generosity of 25 area businesses, every last penny earned in Lower Lake Elementary School”s jog-a-thon Friday will reach the classroom. Proceeds from this year”s event, garnered through sponsorships, total more than $13,000.
“The kids more than doubled what they made last year, which was $5,700. This year they raised an amazing $13,391,” Rachelle Sapeta, LLES Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) vice president said. “They really beat the streets and worked really hard for this.”
Sapeta said thanks to donations by area businesses such as A&B Collision, Chernoh Excavating, Inc., Cecil”s Take & Bake, Tatonka Trading, Small Town Ceramics, Foods, Etc. and 19 others, all event costs including t-shirt printing was covered. “That means 100 percent of what the kids made will go directly back to the classroom,” Sapeta said.
About 350 students in grades kindergarten through eighth participated in Friday”s event. Sapeta commended the assistance of Lower Lake High School”s (LLHS”s) Kids” Club, which is a club offering insight to students interested in a career in early childhood education. “Pam Inman and her students in the Kids” Club are a tremendous help,” she said. “They are always totally willing to help anywhere we need them.”
Proceeds from the jog-a-thon will assistance in obtaining needed school supplies and classroom materials as well as provide funding for educational student field trips.
Additional donations were received by X-Site Motosports, Shearwood Forest, Griffin”s Furniture, From Me 2 U, Comprehensive Support Systems, Jonas Heating & Cooling, Performance Mechanical, Lakeshore Bait & Tackle, Clearlake Lava, Inc., Four Corners, Dietrick”s Tires, B&D Window, Milano Marine Construction, Enterprise Towing & Automotive, Spruce Grove Storage, High Valley Vineyards, St. Helena Hospital Clearlake, Johnny Helms of Lower Lake Shell Station; Susan La Faver, the Harris family and the Muhic family.
