UPPER LAKE — Lake County”s own Florence Peck has written an original script for the second annual murder mystery dinner theater, taking place Saturday at the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake.

Peck has lived in Lake County for all of her life and written many plays that have been produced at Mendocino College. She has been a member of the Lake County Historical Society and uses her historical research to serve as a background for many of her plays.

The murder mystery dinner focuses on the history of the opening day celebration of the Tallman House in the year 1875. The hotel was a stage stop for travelers coming and going through Upper Lake and was a busy hub of activity at the north end of the lake.

Bert Hutt, the producer of the “Murder at the Tallman House,” said he commissioned Peck to write the script in order to add a unique flair to this year”s production. “There are many local historical references to Lake County history within the play,” Hutt said. “After several meetings and some rewrites the finished product has been rehearsed and the actors are eager to perform.”

Hutt added that guests are encouraged to come to the dinner in costume.

“We wanted something this year that would celebrate the opening of the Tallman House, present a bit of local history, offer great entertainment and give adults a chance to dress in period costumes,” Hutt added. “All of the guests are encouraged to come to the dinner in outfits from the late 1800s when Lake County”s springs and resorts were in high fashion.”
