CLEARLAKE — Volunteers for an upcoming community-wide Halloween event are being sought. Contributions to ensure all children of the area enjoy “Safe Halloween for Clearlake Kids” are also being requested.
Safe Halloween for Clearlake Kids is scheduled to kick-off at 4:30 p.m. Halloween evening with a children”s costume parade. The free festival, to which the entire community is invited, will continue from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Tatonka Trading (formerly Jules Miniature Golf), located at 14240 Lakeshore Drive.
Barbara Grier, owner of Burger Time and event sponsor, would like to ensure that all parents of the area have an option for a safe and sober Halloween event for their children and aims for community-wide involvement. The event will include a variety of ghoulish games, for which volunteers are much needed. Lake County Fire Protection District Volunteer Firefighters Association will be assisting with the haunting of the event.
“I”m really impressed with the all businesses, agencies and individuals who have stepped up to help make sure all of our kids have a fun, safe place to go on Halloween,” Grier said. “We still need more volunteers though to help make and man the booths for the games.”
Grier said that she originally intended to hold the event at Redbud Park. She said Tatonka Trading is a better location because it is smaller, well-lit and will be easier to control. “I can”t thank Bunny and Robert Carter enough for allowing us the use of their business,” she said. “And Vicki Estrella at the Clearlake Police Department has been great. She”s organizing the assistance of the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program for the evening. Our main priority is keeping the kids safe and I think the VIPs will be a tremendous help.”
Grier said Foods, Etc. has also been very supportive, contributing candy and fruit for the event.
Grier said a lot more candy is needed. Several candy collection sites have been established throughout the city. She said she would like to collect enough unopened treats to send every child home with a full bag of candy. Grier said she would also like to give each child a sweatshirt to help keep them warm through the upcoming winter. Donations of new sweatshirts can be made at any candy collection site, which includes Burger Time, Tatonka Trading, Silk”s Bar & Grill, Penny Slaver and Clearlake City Hall.
Grier will be offering hotdogs, French fries and soda for $1 apiece. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Lower Lake High School Sober Grad Night 2011.
Grier invites anyone interested in hosting a specialty booth, to contact her. Booths must be appropriate for the festival and are subject to approval.
