Thank you for your editorial opposing Proposition 23, the Dirty Energy Proposition funded by two Texas oil companies to roll back California”s clean energy and clean air standards.

The American Lung Association in California is aligned with 40 major medical and health organizations in strong opposition to Proposition 23 because it would increase the harmful health effects of air pollution including asthma, lung and heart disease, cancer and premature deaths.

California is already home to some of the worst air pollution in the nation, the direct result of our reliance on dirty fossil fuels. More than 91 percent of Californians live in counties that were assigned failing air quality grades by the American Lung Association”s 2010 State of the Air report. Doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and other medical professionals see the harmful effects of air pollution every day in patients.

The American Lung Association urges Lake County residents to vote No on 23. To learn more, please visit our Web site www.lungusa.org/california.
