Friends of the Library to conduct open house

LAKEPORT — Friends of the Lake County Library will conduct its annual open house and book sale, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeport Library, 1425 N. High St. in Lakeport.

The group is making a special offer: for $15, attendees can purchase a Friends of the Library book bag and fill it with books. The book sale will include one-of-a-kind books, book sets and books no longer in print. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

A silent auction features craft items including puzzles, jewelry, decorative items and a quilted wallhanging. Other items are being added as the event approaches.

Featured author Steve Bartholomew, author of “Gold: A Tale of the Gold Rush” and “Journey to Rhyolite,” will read from one of his latest novels. Special guest OurKnee, the only canine member of the Friends of the Library, will attend and greet his book-loving friends.

Proceeds from this event support the libraries in Lake County. For more information, call 263-8817.

Survey gauges candidates” views on arts education

PASADENA — The California Alliance for Arts Education”s online survey of candidates for superintendent of public instruction offers voters a way to understand how the candidates might impact arts education in public schools.

The survey asked candidates about a variety of issues related to arts education, including access, assessment and workforce preparation. It can be viewed online at http://artsed411.org/educate/guide1.aspx.

LCTC is holding auditions for ?Dearly Beloved”

LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Theatre Company invites interested actors to attend auditions for “Dearly Beloved,” 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 and Nov. 11 in the Little Theatre at the Lake County Fairgrounds and from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Lower Lake Community United Methodist Church social hall, 16255 Second St.

Arts council to hold annual meeting

LAKEPORT ? The Lake County Arts Council holds its annual meeting, 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Main Street Gallery, located at 325 N. Main St. in Lakeport. Introductions of the current board, gallery committee and Soper-Reese committee will be made. Light refreshments will be served as Travis Rinkler executes his original music on acoustic guitar. Symphony to debut Nov. 21 at Soper-Reese

LAKEPORT — The Lake County Symphony will perform Nov. 21 at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre. The Lake County Symphony is underwritten by Clear Lake Performing Arts.

Due to limited seating at the Soper-Reese, children younger than 18 will no longer be admitted free to the Lake County Symphony concert. Instead, they will be welcome at the full orchestra rehearsal, which starts at 11 a.m. Members of the public may also attend the rehearsal for $5 per person.

Admission to the 3 p.m. performance remains $20 for the public and $15 for members of Clear Lake Performing Arts.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 263-0577 or online at www.soperreesetheatre.com. They are also available from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays at the theater box office, 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport, as well as Catfish Books in the 11th Street mall and at Lower Lake Coffee Co. in Lower Lake.

Tickets on sale for Renaissance pageant

MIDDLETOWN — Tickets are on sale now for the 17th annual Renaissance Christmas Pageant and Feast. Once again, revelers are invited to celebrate the season in Greystone Castle, also known as the Middletown Community United Methodist Church.

Performances take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 3, 4, 10 and 11, with matinees at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 and 12. A three-course feast will be served while guests enjoy theater-in-the-round in the castle”s great hall, with a cappella Renaissance and Christmas music, authentic costumes and d?cor. During this year”s performance, the castle is breached by pirates. Diners are invited to dress as nobles, peasants or pirates and see what unfolds.

Individual tickets bought before Nov. 15 at $40. After Nov. 15, the price will be $44 each. Tickets for groups of four or more are $35 each.

According to publicists, $20 per ticket can be declared as a tax deduction. Proceeds support community programs such as emergency food distribution, parenting support groups, youth and community outreach programs and more.
