UPPER LAKE — The Upper Lake Cougars didn”t beat the St. Helena Saints on Thursday night, but they did do something no other varsity volleyball team has done in the North Central League I South this season ? win a game from the Saints.
St. Helena (8-0) defeated Upper Lake 25-11, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15 to close out a perfect South campaign. The Saints won their previous seven South matches in the minimum three games. They haven”t lost a match since falling to Justin-Siena in the Middletown Tournament on Oct. 2 and have now won 12 in a row.
“The girls were elated,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said. “They played in that game the way that I”ve wanted to see all season.”
Katherine Edmonds and Emily Knispel had seven kills apiece to lead Upper Lake.
Upper Lake will apply for an at-large berth in next week”s North Coast Section Division V playoffs. The field will be announced Sunday.
