Shortly after the final precinct counts were released by the Office of Voter Registrar, just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, Don Anderson made this announcement to a group of eager supporters that followed him to the courthouse from their pre-election rally at the Quail Run Fitness Center in Lakeport.
“We have 53.3 percent of the votes. The voters have spoken and I am pleased to announce that we have been victorious in our campaign. I am grateful for the vote of confidence and I want to thank each and every one of you for your support, especially my family and my campaign team. I could not have done this without you. This victory is not just mine, it”s yours.”
Don also thanked Kelly Cox, Diane Fridley and their staff for their dedication and hard work. “Despite mechanical problems that slowed the process down considerably, they stayed on the job until all the votes were counted.”
Don went on to say, “It”s been a long haul and it”s hard to believe we”re finally at the end of our campaign. I want to thank Doug Rhoades and his campaign team for staying focused on the issues. I certainly wish Doug well and I look forward to working with him in the future. I also look forward to working with the staff of the District Attorney”s Office.
The first order of business for me is to begin the process of preparing for my transition from private practice to public service. My goal is to ensure that the District Attorney”s office represents the people of Lake County in the most effective and efficient manner possible. I am going to do everything in my power to improve the quality of life here in Lake County so that citizens, businesses and visitors feel safe in our communities.”
Don begins his official duties on Jan. 5. After initially assessing the workload of the Office and meeting with staff members, Don will begin evaluating and updating policies to reflect his campaign promises and plan. Don also plans to quickly go to work on setting up a selection process for establishing a citizen”s advisory committee and opening an office in Clearlake, two of his top priorities. Anyone interested in serving on the advisory committee can contact Don to discuss their interest at 263-1775.
Although the final results will not be certified by the Office of Voter Registrar for 30 days, with a lead of 6.6 percent, Don”s victory is secure.
