LAKEPORT — Stacey Mattina and Tom Engstrom will be seated in December on the Lakeport City Council.
Preliminary results for Tuesday”s election showed Mattina with 433 votes for 20.7 percent and Tom Engstrom with 380 votes for 18.2 percent.
“I”m thrilled,” Mattina said. “I have a ton of support and they really got out there for me.” When asked about her plans for the coming year, Mattina said she would keep an open mind and listen to the citizens of Lakeport.
Mattina, 41, moved to Lake County with her family in 2001. She has been a realtor for 13 years and owns Konocti Realty with her husband, Matt. Mattina got a bachelor”s degree from Sacramento State in organizational communications with a minor in economics. Mattina is a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a women”s organization that raises money for scholarships and Christmas Adopt-A-Family programs.
Earlier this year, Engstrom said that he was stepping out of the race for Lakeport City Council, citing an assignment from his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to oversee nine Northern California congregations.
“It is with deep humility that I acknowledge the will of the voters of Lakeport and accept a seat on the Lakeport City Council,” Engstrom said in a statement on Wednesday. “I appreciate your faith and trust in me, given my other commitments. I pledge that I will serve you to the best of my ability. Your support, input and prayers are greatly appreciated.”
Engstrom, 62, earned a bachelor”s degree from University of San Francisco in public administration and graduated from the FBI National Academy on police management. He moved to Lakeport in 1994 to become the Lakeport chief of police. He retired in 2005 after 37 years in law enforcement. Engstrom was then appointed as the executive director of Mendo-Lake Alternative Services, which is a nonprofit that administers the community service program for the courts.
Seven candidates competed for two seats on the Lakeport City Council. Among the remaining candidates, George Spurr had 315 votes for 15.1 percent, James C. Irwin had 306 votes for 14.6 percent, Marc C. Spillman had 304 votes for 14.5 percent, Ted Mandrones had 225 votes for 10.8 percent and P.J. Racine had 130 votes for 6.2 percent.
A statement on the City of Lakeport”s Web site indicated that the city will welcome Mattina and Engstrom to the Lakeport City Council in December.
