KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights scored 27 points in the third quarter to break things open and rolled to a 44-7 victory over the St. Vincent Mustangs in a North Central League I interlock varsity football game on Friday night in Kelseyville.
Kelseyville improved to 5-0 at home and 7-2 overall. The Knights” league and regular-season finale is next Friday at Fort Bragg, a game that will have huge playoff implications for both teams.
“It was definitely good enough,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said of the Knights” effort one week after falling 56-0 at Middletown. “I”m glad we were able to rebound and get that win under our belts. Hopefully it will give us some momentum going into the Fort Bragg game.”
Nick Rodrigues scored on a 9-yard run and Geno Poloni added a 4-yard run in the first half to give the Knights a 14-0 lead. In the third quarter, Poloni picked up his second touchdown with a 1-yard run, Mike Davis caught a 31-yard TD pass from Chris Aguon, Mike Allen scored on a 19-yard run and Rodrigues rambled 15 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-0.
Diego Barajas kicked a 32-yard field goal with 6:23 left in the game to make it 44-0.
St. Vincent finally scored on a 5-yard pass from Conor Brown to Michael Meiswinkel.
Kelseyville”s defense kept the pressure on Brown all night, sacking him seven times. Michael Allen had four of those sacks and Blake Sedrick two. Sedrick also recovered a fumble.
“He had a great game,” Ishihara said of Allen, who had three other tackles and five assists to go along with his sacks. “We put quite a bit of pressure on him (Brown).”
Rodrigues (108) and Poloni (104) each topped 100 yards rushing as the Knights gained 294 yards on the ground.
On posting a 5-0 record at home this season, Ishihara said, “The fan support has been great.”
