SANTA ROSA ? A Santa Rosa man was arrested on Wednesday in connection to a three-year-old sexual assault case that occurred in Clearlake. Fllynn F. O”Donnel was taken into custody in Santa Rosa and transported directly to Lake County Jail where he was booked on a $250,000 felony warrant for kidnapping with intent to commit robbery/rape.
According to Clearlake Police Sgt. Tom Clements, O”Donnel”s arrest stems from a 2007 sexual assault case. He said that an adult female had friends over and when they left a vehicle with two men in it pulled up. The men allegedly forced the woman into oral copulation. Sexual assault evidence was collected at the time of the incident.
“As it turns out, it took three years to get a DNA hit on the suspect,” Clements said.
Lt. Craig Clausen said when O”Donnel was arrested recently by Sonoma County Sheriff”s Department (SCSD), DNA samples were taken as is now state law with all felony arrests. As a result, he said, a DNA hit was detected through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
Clausen said as a result of the CODIS hit, the case was taken to the District Attorney”s Office and subsequently, a warrant for O”Donnel”s arrest was issued by Honorable Judge Stephen O. Hedstrom.
Detective Martin Snyder traveled to Santa Rosa where he executed the warrant with the assistance of SCSD.
