LAKEPORT — The Lakeport City Council received a list of candidates for the soon-to-be-formed Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee during Tuesday”s regular meeting.

Dan Buffalo, the city”s economic development manager, presented the council with the applications of 10 citizens who expressed interest in joining the committee. Six of the candidates briefly addressed the council Tuesday.

The council approved the formation of LEDAC during the Aug. 17 regular meeting. Staff began the recruitment process soon thereafter, Buffalo said.

“I look at this committee as a think tank” and “a blue ribbon panel of local experts,” Buffalo told the council.

The committee would advise the council on a number of issues, including development strategies, community needs and commerce solutions, Buffalo said.

Buffalo asked the council to approve all 10 candidates, as LEDAC was originally designed to include 12 local members.

Candidates were required to be local residents with clear leadership experience and expertise in one of a number of areas, including finance, marketing, real estate or public administration, Buffalo said.

The candidate list is as follows: Alan Flora, Lake County planner; Melissa Fulton, of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce; Carol Hays, executive director of Lakeport Main Street Association; Milton Heath, retired business owner; Richard Hoyt, business owner; Robert Klinger, business owner; George Linn, retired financial professional; Nina Marino, education consultant; Sherrye Schwarz, retired manager; and Wilda Shock, college instructor.

Buffalo said the committee would meet monthly at the beginning of its formation, and then move to quarterly meetings. Members would sit on the committee for a specific term length, which has yet to be determined, according to Buffalo.

The council voted unanimously to accept the candidate list Tuesday. Council members will review the list and make committee appointments during the Dec. 7 regular meeting.
