HAYWARD — Lake County cross country runners travel to Hayward High School on Saturday morning for the North Coast Section Championships, the qualifier for the CIF State Championships the following Saturday in Fresno.

The Hayward High course is 3.0 miles long and runners are visible to spectators most of the race.

There are five divisions and a total of 10 races (one boys and one girls in each division). Clear Lake, Middletown and Upper Lake compete in Division V while Lower Lake runs in Division IV.

The top five boys” and top five girls” teams in Division V as well as the five fastest runners who are not members of the top five teams advance to Woodward Park in Fresno for the CIF State Championships on Nov. 27. Runners not on a top-five team must also place in the top 18 to advance to Fresno.

In Division IV, the top four boys” teams and top three girls” teams move on to Fresno as do the fastest five runners who are not on a top-four team (boys) or a top-three team (girls). Those runners not on an automatically advancing team must also finish in the top 16.

The Division IV boys” race begins at 9 a.m. and the Division IV girls” race is 10 a.m. The Division V boys” race is 10:30 a.m. and the Division V girls” race is noon.

Medals are awarded to the top seven finishers in each race and the awards ceremony for each race takes place in the main gym. Other awards include plaques to boys” and girls” team champions in each division, pennants to the first- and second-place boys” and girls” teams in each division, certificates for all participants and medals to all runners on the first-, second- and third-place boys” and girls” teams in each division.

Admission prices are $6 for adults and $4 for students, children and senior citizens.
