Possible annual event for the county to hold could be called “Run to the Top,” whereas this event is held from Spring to Fall on certain week days and folks in different divisions run the foot path to the top of Mount Konocti.
Each runner is timed and the winners would be who recorded the best time, during the year.
It could be like an Iron Man event. Trophies could be given out to the “King of the Mountain 20XX, Queen of the Mountain 20XX.”
A special large trophy that is displayed at different businesses around the lake during the year that offer sponsorship funding to cover advertising the event and other expenses for running it, would have the name of the person who held the record time for the Run to the Top.
When a new record is set, a new name is added with date to this trophy.
A cash prize may also be awarded each year, as a draw to the general public to participate in the event, too. It might be a great idea to have a local winning trophy to be displayed in the community the winner lives.
Another one might be for the winners from each high school, with the trophy displayed at the winning school of that year.
It could be named, the Ron Stone Trophy, after a local high school student who held some state running records at one time, or someone like that.
The winners could be announced at one of the lake”s festivals as part of the festivities. Winners names and pictures could be placed in sport sections of the state”s newspapers to advertise the event also.
The event could add to the economy. Out-of-county runners could come to challenge the records.
