HEALDSBURG — Veronica Wilder had no problem finding the range from the field unlike her Lower Lake teammates on Monday night as the Trojans fell 57-35 to the Healdsburg Greyhounds in a non-league varsity girls” basketball game at Smith Robinson Gym.
Wilder, a senior guard, led the Trojans in their season opener with 18 points, the only Lower Lake player to reach double digits.
“We made a lot of mistakes early,” Lower Lake coach Jim Salmina said of the 17-7 lead Healdsburg had after one quarter. “We”ve got to have some players step up. This is a team we”re capable of playing with.”
Danacka Whittington scored six points for the Trojans (0-1) and April White added five.
“We had some early season jitters, whatever you want to call them,” Salmina said. “We just had a rough night.”
Healdsburg led 47-21 after three quarters.
Wilder sank two of the Trojans” 3-pointers.
Lower Lake returns to action Thursday against Ukiah in the opening round of the Willits Tournament at Willits High School. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
