LAKEPORT — Steven Edwards tossed in 16 points and Tanner Mansell added another 14 as the Clear Lake High School varsity boys” basketball team opened a new season with a 53-39 victory over Mendocino in non-league action at Lakeport.

“For the most part fundamentally we did some pretty good stuff,” Clear Lake coach Glenn Wienke said. “I”m proud of them.”

Tyler Beets, who is new to the sport, scored four points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds in his varsity debut.

Oren Ruffcorn scored six points and turned in a strong game on defense, according to Wienke. Kyle Donald added five points.

Clear Lake returns to action Thursday against Justin-Siena of Napa in the opening round of the Stokes Invitational at Kelseyville High School. Tip-off is noon.
