KELSEYVILLE — The drivers of both vehicles involved in a head-on collision on Highway 29 Monday afternoon were airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries, according to California Highway Patrol officer Dallas Richey.
Upper Lake resident Andrew Layton, 39, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 29 southbound from Main Street in Kelseyville but missed the southbound merging lane, turning instead into the northbound lane, Richey said.
Layton”s car, an orange Chevrolet HHR, collided head-on with a green Mazda Tribute SUV driven by Clearlake resident Tammy Dias, 44, Richey said.
Two minors riding in the Chevrolet sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Richey said. A 19-year-old woman who was riding in the Mazda sustained minor injuries and was not transported.
Layton and Dias were transported to the Kelseyville High School football field where both were airlifted to Santa Rosa, Richey said.
