On Tuesday evening my husband and I attended a meeting at the council chambers of Lakeport. The reason for the meeting was the noise problem with the Full Throttle Tavern, just down the hill from where we live.
We listened to the owners report on what they have done to upgrade the business and it sounded like they really do want to accommodate the clients as well as the local neighbors who have called the police numerous times and felt they got no results.
What I was impressed with was the full support the owners had from their clients and employees. What disgusted me was the lack of support from the complainers. One man did all the legwork and got the meeting scheduled with promises from all the complainers that they would be there in support of their cause. The two people who spoke aside from myself and Joey gave very disgusting reports about what happens around their homes by the clients who get drunk and are no longer responsible. No one asked the business be shut down, just help to make the situation more livable. They employ people and right now that is a good thing.
I don”t like to call anyone a coward, but it sure seems like that was the case. Did all you grown up people who begged Joey to do something and promised to be there in support suddenly get sick or just turn into Jello? I”m calling you cowards and I am ashamed for you.
I was impressed with the meeting and the committee, but I also shake my head at the lack of respect for the law that”s written. There is a code in the city laws and it has to be upheld or changed. The man who walked out before the committee member finished his statement and shouted negative remarks was being juvenile, as were those outside, who made it necessary for a police officer to escort Joey to his car. We”re in this world together and need to work together for the good of all.
I wish the owners a successful business and the neighbors peace and comfort. It can be done.
