CLEARLAKE — Animal Coalition of Lake County (ACLC) is seeking the assistance of the community in bringing back to good health a dog rescued last week in Clearlake. The female American bulldog mix is about 40 pounds underweight and malnutrition has caused an array of medical conditions.

“Angel” was rescued from the yard of a vacant home on 41st Avenue

Dec. 9. Rescuers said they are unsure if the dog was abandoned at the residence or put in the yard by an someone because it was roaming the neighborhood. Rescuer Vic Langlais said according to neighbors, Angel had been in the yard unattended since at least Dec. 7.

Angel is in better condition now than she was the day she was rescued, ACLC volunteer Don Doyle said. “You look at her now, she was worse than this four days ago,” he said. “She should weigh about 40 more pounds than this.”

Malnutrition has caused Angel to go blind and deaf. Multiple abrasions riddle her body, legs and face. ACLC volunteer Rita Doyle said that Angel was nearly immobile when she was brought into her care. “We need to do something about all these neglect cases going on. They do nothing about this. There”s no prosecution. You”d think we lived in a third-world country,” she said. “There are a lot of wonderful and caring people around here and they need to know what”s going on.”

Rita Doyle said that Angel is younger than she looks. She said dental analysis by a veterinarian puts her at about five to seven years of age. “She”s not an old dog. They just abused her,” she said.

Angel is under the care of Dr. Debi Sally. Anyone wishing to contribute the betterment of Angel”s health can make a donation to Clearlake Veterinary Clinic located on Emerson Street in Clearlake.
