Mr. Morgan”s letter of Dec. 21 paints a very rosy picture of business conditions in our state.

While it is true that Apple, Google and others are doing very well in California, it is also true that many of their operations and manufacturing have moved elsewhere.

One only has to look at all the empty buildings in the Santa Rosa and Petaluma areas to see that business has left the state. Some have left the country and some have gone to other states with more favorable business climates.

California has one of the highest unemployment records in the country caused by many factors, not the least of which is the general hostility to business.

If you have not run a business in this state you have no idea of the difficulties that are placed before those who do.

I have been out of the business scene for sometime but, from what I can see, things have not become any easier due to increasing rules and regulation.

When I was much younger there was a lot of manufacturing in my native state, which has left for places that are more welcoming. Some think that China and other overseas locations have captured much of the work but you only have to visit states with better conditions for business to see that manufacturing flourishes.

All is not lost for business to rebound in our state but we must do more to attract and keep business alive and vibrant.

Buy Californian and buy American.
