LAKE COUNTY — Lake County”s unemployment rate increased 1.6 percent in November, according to preliminary figures released by the Employment Development Department.

The jobless rate has reached 18.7 percent, which is 1.3 percent higher than November 2009.

Lake County jobs decreased by 650 between October and November, with seasonal farming and tourism industries being the most significant sources of job-loss.

Small increases in state government and wholesale trade jobs helped account for 60 new jobs in the government and trade, transportation and utilities categories. Five job sectors remained unchanged.

The state and federal unemployment rates also increased over the month. California”s rate now stands at 12.4 percent and the U.S. rate is 9.3 percent. Lake County”s rate ranks 53 out of 58 California counties. The rates for nearby counties include Colusa at 20.8 percent, Mendocino at 11.3 percent and Sonoma at 10.1 percent.
