RENO ? The Upper Lake varsity wrestling team showed a strong presence for a young team at the Sierra-Nevada Classic on Tuesday in Reno.
Ward Beecher, at 135 pounds, advances to the second day today. Beecher is 4-1 and is the lone team member advancing.
Coach Ron Campos said that two years ago only 12 matches were won in this tournament with an all senior team. As of Tuesday, the team has won 14 matches with no seniors.
Travis Coleman, 125 pounds, is 3-2. Campos said he “wrestled wonderfully.”
Robert Siemondi, 130 pounds, went 3-2 and Bruce Tucker, 145 pounds, made his debut with 2-2. Campos said he expects great things from Tucker in the future. Andrew Frazier, 189 pounds, went 2-2.
“We had a very tough tournament last week. This tournament, these kids wrestled above their heads. I expect really great things from this young team. I”m very proud of them,” Campos said.
