SODA BAY ? Zino”s Ristorante and Inn will be holding a lake plunge event on New Year”s Day to raise funds for a Yuba College Clear Lake Campus culinary arts scholarship to honor the memory of the restaurant”s longtime owner Zino Mezoui, who died in September.
The Polar Bear Plunge event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, during which citizens can purchase a $15 brunch. David Neft will play keyboards during the event.
The plunge itself will occur at 1:30 p.m. and the cost for plungers is $10, which includes a beverage. People can watch the jumpers from Zino”s Chicken Coop for $5 and anyone can pledge money to sponsor others” jumps.
All of the proceeds will go toward a scholarship in Zino”s name, according to restaurant owner Jan Mezoui, who hopes to host the event every year.
Saturday”s event will be held in all weather conditions.
