CLEARLAKE — Clearlake police got a helping hand from an observant citizen Friday contributing to the capture and arrest of a burglary suspect. Dale McKay, 20, of Clearlake was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest following a brief pursuit.
According to Clearlake Police Sgt. T. Hobbs, officers were dispatched to Walmart around 7:30 a.m. Friday for a report of a burglary that just occurred. The suspect, later identified as McKay, allegedly left the store with two PlayStation 3s and was last seen going into the field to the south of McDonald”s.
Hobbs said that during search of the area, McKay came out of the field and was spotted by Officer T. Lenz in the loading dock area behind Ray”s Food Place. “A foot pursuit ensued and McKay ran from Officer Lenz around to the front of the store,” Hobbs said. “As McKay attempted to run inside the store, he was tackled by a citizen who had observed Officer Lenz chasing him through the parking lot. The Clearlake Police Department would like to recognize the efforts of the citizen who assisted in the arrest of McKay.”
McKay was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest and later booked into Lake County Jail. Hobbs said the stolen property was located.
