CLEARLAKE — An effort is under way to collect coats and warm clothing for those in need throughout the area. “Grandma Dee”s Keeping Clearlake Cozy,” spearheaded by Clearlake resident Bridget McLeran, is now accepting items for distribution next week.

The distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at 14111 Lakeshore Drive, across from Kevin Ness Jewelers. Free coffee, hot cocoa and snacks will be provided.

“This is something that my mother felt very passionate about. She conducted a coat drive at Austin Park during the winter while she was still alive,” McLeran said. “Now that she is gone, my family and I feel that it”s up to us to carry on her tradition and provide for our community.”

McLeran welcomes any donations of new and gently used coats, gloves, scarves and hats of all sizes, which will be given away to anyone in need of warmth. “This is a very giving community we live in and there is no reason any one should go cold,” McLeran said. “It”s up to the community to take care of the less fortunate neighbors we have.”

Drop-off locations include Shine Designs located at 14558 Lakeshore Drive and Lake County Fire Protection District Office on Olympic Drive in Clearlake. McLeran will also pick-up any items for donation. She can be contacted at 295-2374 or by e-mail at bridge.1@live.com.
