UPDATED:

Lake County Publishing is eliminating Topix comment posting and testing a new article commenting system in an effort to improve the experience for our users and allow them to more easily share their comments.

To comment on an article, you will be required to register on the site.

We”ve found that more people join the conversation and article commenting becomes more civil when a person is easily identifiable with their name and face attached to a comment.

In the past we have asked our readers numerous times to avoid vulgar, hateful and racist comments in their postings. Although most have, there are still numerous inappropriate postings made at all hours of the day by a few people.

We were able to remove their postings, but unable to remove their ability to post new messages or block access. This has led some people to avoid the postings, which we feel are important to discuss issues important to our readers.

Comment posters are responsible for the opinions they express and the accuracy of the information they provide. We urge comment writers to treat this as a public forum where manners matter. We encourage a collegial, non-insulting tone. Be aware, in accordance with the Communications Decency Act and provisions upheld in judicial appeal, you are responsible for comments posted on this website.

The Lake County Record-Bee is not liable for messages from third parties.

We still ask that those commenting do not post potentially libelous statements or damaging innuendo, obscene, explicit or racist language.

Do not wage personal attacks by use of insults or threats. We would like to remind those commenting that the use of another person”s real name to disguise your identity is now illegal in California.

Please do not solicit or post comments unrelated to the story. Opinions, advice and all other information expressed through reader comments represent the individual”s own views and not necessarily those of the Lake County Record-Bee.

The Lake County Record-Bee does not endorse and is not responsible for statements, advice or opinions offered by anyone other than authorized Lake County Record-Bee spokespersons.

Questions or comments may be sent to letters@record-bee.com or call 263-5636.
