UPDATED:

Both Geraldine Gutsch and Deb Baumann made important points about the dangers of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in our foods. U.C. Davis”s GMO cheerleader, Pamela Ronald, goes around claiming that GMOs can”t be linked to so much as a headache.

That”s very misleading since GMOs have never been tested for long-term harmful effects. You can”t link something to a condition if the manufacturer won”t allow it to be tested.

When people see these products at the market, they assume that they”ve been subjected to some rigorous safeguards. Not true! Not even close ? a former Monsanto lawyer working as an industry mole in the FDA wrote national policy, still in effect, that if the manufacturer believes the product is safe, the FDA accepts their word for it. Scientists in the FDA were alarmed by the possible consequences of dumping GMOs into the food supply but they were ignored and are still being ignored.

The preliminary results of studies on animals show that there are potentially very serious dangers to the digestive tract and immune system from toxins and random mutations that occur in GMOs. To date no one has been allowed to pursue this line of research in the U.S. It”s interesting that are they be so afraid of testing if there is nothing wrong with these products.

How can you protect your family”s health until more is known about the dangers? Avoid these four ingredients: corn, soy, cottonseed and canola, unless they are either organically grown or labeled non-GMO. A lot of oddly-named ingredients listed on packaging are made from GMO corn or soy, so avoid eating food that”s got an ingredient list full of stuff your grandmother didn”t use in her recipes.
