LAKE COUNTY — On Thursday at 1 p.m. more than125 friends and family members attended the celebration of life at the Lucerne Community Church for Jim Harris, who died Saturday. Harris was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Survivors and ?Sweethearts,” wives of survivors, attended the service including Martin Hoopes, Bill Slater, Vanya Leighton, Alice Darrow, Walter Urmann, Floyd Eddy and Bud Boner. Harris was the President of the Lake County Pearl Harbor Survivors Association Chapter. United States Navy Honor Guard Commander, Greg Allcut presented Jim”s wife Helen with an American Flag. Speakers included Jim”s nephew, Kevin Harris, younger brother Leon Harris, the designer for the Pearl Harbor Survivors Memorial at Library Park in Lakeport, and Ronnie Bogner, who read a letter addressed to Helen from the Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Patrick M. Walsh, Admiral, U.S. Navy. Brad Onorato, district representative for Congressman Mike Thompson, presented a U.S. flag to Helen that was flown over the Capitol in Washington D.C. in Jim”s honor on Saturday night. Jim had sent Onorato and Thompson Pearl Harbor Survivor Association Honorary Lifetime Membership cards. Onorato said they we”re both very honored to have known him.
