UPDATED:

As a long-time citizen of Lake County I would like to express some concern over a rapidly growing problem in our community.

What happened to all of our passing lanes? Lately I have heard of a rising occurrence of head-on collisions on our local highways and I believe that I have some insight as to why this is happening.

It is very frustrating when you are trying to commute to work or school in the morning and it never fails, you end up behind some oblivious driver who is doing a steady 40 miles per hour in a 55 zone and refuses to pull over no matter how many cars are piled up behind them.

Have people forgotten that it is a law that you must pull over when you get five or more cars behind you, especially when you choose to drive way under the posted speed limit?

Many accidents are occurring because there is a desperate soul trying to make it to work on time and some slowpoke is cruising along at 35 and doesn”t think to pull over. There is hardly any opportunity between Kelseyville and Lower Lake to pass as there is always oncoming traffic and no extra lanes. There is simply no way to get around a slow mover.

What should be a 30-minute drive turns into a frustrating hour journey.

I am not condoning reckless driving or speeding.

I am merely asking that the drivers who choose to drive under the posted speed limit please have some respect for others and pull over when you can and let us other drivers go by, especially when you notice multiple cars behind you.

Not only will you earn the respect of fellow motorists but you will help avoid future traffic accidents.
