LAKE COUNTY — The county”s unemployment rate increased for yet another month in 2010, according to the preliminary December data provided by the state”s Employment Development Department (EDD).

Lake County”s jobless rate is 19.1 percent, a 0.3-percent increase from the final November rate, according to the EDD. The December 2010 rate increased 0.9 percent from the December 2009 rate.

Seasonal industries, like construction and tourism, accounted for the majority of the jobs lost between November and December, according to the EDD.

Government jobs in Lake County increased by 10 over the month, but the sector has decreased 90 jobs overall this year, the EDD said. Job totals in six industries, including farming, information and financial activities, remained unchanged over the month, the EDD said.

Lake County jumped up three spots in the statewide rankings, according to the EDD. The county”s 19.1-percent jobless rate ranks 50th out of 58 California counties.

California”s preliminary jobless rate is 12.3 percent, a 0.1-percent decrease from November and a 0.1-percent increase for the year, the EDD said. The national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent.

The rates for nearby counties, according to the EDD, include Colusa at 25.2 percent, Mendocino at 11.6 percent and Sonoma at 10 percent.
