UPDATED:

There were two recent letters, “keep up or move over” by Stefanie Edwards and “What”s the hurry” by Stephanie Codling I would like to comment on.

I too am very frustrated with slow drivers and a lack of passing lanes.

Speaking of which, what was the purpose of shortening the passing lane near Bell Hill Road? That lane isn”t even long enough to get your speed up so what good is it? Still, slow drivers are an almost daily occurrence which only serves to breed road ragers. Especially now with more people unemployed, more stress and way more traffic. And the problem of slow drivers is not only restricted to Highway 29. Many people have not noticed yet the speed limit on North Main Street in Lakeport has increased from 25 to 30 mph.

I personally like to do 60-62 and I”m okay with 55, generally but 40 and 45 is totally unacceptable. If 55 is considered by some to be a snail”s pace then 45 would be less than a snail”s pace and anything under that may be almost considered going in reverse.

Those who enjoy meandering along always have the same response, leave earlier. That is not the answer. Some people like myself never get up late and 98 percent of the time allow enough time for the trip. Why would (or should) anyone give themselves an hour for a 15 minute trip? There are better solutions and it is always appreciated when someone does pull over.

As to Ms. Codling”s curiosity of why those two women were in such a hurry, only those women would know however a few possibilities might be that maybe they were going to work or maybe a personal emergency such as the house on fire or a very sick loved one. Or maybe the person caring for the kids needs to leave on time. While none of these make crossing a double yellow line okay, anger and road rage can cause some bad choices.

There are also medical conditions that can cause hyperactivity or erratic behavior such as thyroid disease and ADHD. And high sugar intake can cause hyperactivity just to name a couple.

There are varied and valid reasons people rightfully want to do the speed limit. For one, we are in the 21st century and people, it seems, have more to do and less time to do everything. And two, fortunately some people are still working and value being to work on time. Some of us with sometimes more than one client in a day will schedule them for specific times even though I allow a little extra time for this reason.

The slow driver make it sound like we want all drivers to speed when we only want you to come up to the speed limit. There are many problems to aggravate drivers. In fact one would be the incredible difficulty of getting onto Lakeport”s Main street from numerous cross streets unless you peel out on only two tires. With more traffic now a few more stop signs would be nice.

While many of us struggle almost daily to keep our patience, many times it”s easier said than done.
