RED BLUFF — Competing against a field comprised mainly of North Section teams, the Clear Lake Cardinals placed seventh out of 35 schools during the Tehama County Shootout on Saturday at Red Bluff High School.
Orland won the team title with 285.5 points and Henley High School, located near Klamath Falls in Oregon, came in second with 265.5. Corning, Red Bluff, Anderson and Reed also finished in front of the Cardinals.
Eight Clear Lake wrestlers finished eighth or higher in their respective weight classes. Two Cardinals — Robby Hammers at 154 pounds and Matt Lockwood at 173 pounds — won third-place medals. Ryan Blyleven added a fourth at 114 pounds.
Clear Lake”s other top placers were Brandon Holt, who was seventh at 132 pounds; Mike Reynolds, who was seventh at 191 pounds; Roberto Morfin, who was seventh at 217 pounds; Mike DeAngelo, who was eighth at 142 pounds; and Shawn Larsen, who was eighth at 191 pounds.
Clear Lake”s wrestling squad hosts Kelseyville and Lower Lake in a three-team Coastal Mountain Conference meet on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
