SANTA ROSA — Max Huff”s double-double of 24 points and 20 rebounds — both season highs — propelled the Kelseyville Knights past the Sonoma Academy Coyotes 68-52 in a non-league varsity boys” basketball game on Saturday in Santa Rosa.
“Max just did a great job on the boards,” Kel-seyville assistant coach Rich Facey said. “He really crashed them.”
Huff scored 11 points in the third quarter when the Knights, leading 28-25 at halftime, pulled away from the Coyotes. Wyatt Ferrell also had seven of his 13 points in the same quarter as Kelseyville outscored Sonoma Academy 24-14.
While Huff”s impressive double-double caught most of the attention, Kelseyville senior guard Mike Davis turned in a pretty impressive effort as well, according to Facey. Davis finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. He also drew two charges while playing defense, something that didn”t go unnoticed by his coach.
“That”s something we”ve been emphasizing,” said Facey, who added that the Knights” defensive presence against Sonoma Academy was a step up from recent Kelseyville games.
“We played a much better all-around game and put a lot more pressure on the ball,” Facey said.
Kelseyville improved to 13-7 with the victory.
The Knights close out the first half of their North Central League I North schedule tonight at home against the Timberwolves, who at 3-0 are the only remaining undefeated team in the North standings.
