LAKE COUNTY — Soroptimist International of Clear Lake will welcome Dr. Paula Dhanda as its guest speaker for the club”s annual Spring Fling Luncheon. Dhanda will speak about women”s health care and her medical mission to Tchad, Africa.
The Spring Fling Luncheon is Soroptimist”s annual fundraiser, during which the club presents its Women”s Opportunity Awards. The awards recognize the efforts of local women who serve as head-of-household and are returning to school in order to better themselves and their families. The club will also present its Violet Richardson Award, which recognizes a young woman between the ages of 14 to 17 who contributes exceptionally and voluntarily to the community.
“Soroptimist International is dedicated to improving the lives of women and children, locally and abroad,” Becky Hiss, publicity chairperson said. “Dr. Dhanda”s mission is the same and we are very excited to have her join us as our guest speaker this year.”
Dhanda specializes in women”s health care and has served the needs of Lake County women for more than 20 years. In 2009, Dhanda hand-picked a team of health care providers specializing in women”s care that traveled to Adventist Health B?r? Hospital in Tchad, Africa. According to Dhanda, women in Tchad suffer immensely from a variety of gynecological and obstetric conditions that often lead to ostracism from their families and communities. Dhanda will speak about the experience at the upcoming luncheon.
The Spring Fling will be held March 5 at the Clearlake Senior/Community Center, 3245 Bowers Road in Clearlake. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; program begins at noon. The event will include silent and live auctions as well as raffle opportunities.
Tickets are priced at $35 per person. Ticket price includes lunch, beverage and the club”s “famous” dessert bar. Menu choices include a fresh mushroom and spinach dish with chicken and Italian sausage tossed with penne pasta and cream sauce or cheese tortellini with a creamy pesto sauce.
