UPDATED:

With the news today of the turmoil in Egypt we can expect a boost in the price of oil as is almost always the case when there is bad news in the Middle East.

Any increase in oil prices will have an adverse effect on our very weak economy. We must start to reopen drilling in the USA as soon as possible. This does not mean that we should not continue to develop alternate sources of energy.

Oil is going to be with us for many years, like it or not, and we must produce more here to avoid being dependent on those who hate us.

Even if alternate energy sources were available today to solve all our needs it will take many years to pay for replacement of all the equipment that runs on petroleum. It is a matter of our national security that we make every effort to become energy independent as quickly as possible and no longer send billions of our money out of our country.
