With the unemployment rate over 19 percent in this county, it is imperative now more than ever to shop locally.
It”s very disheartening to drive through town and see businesses that have been here for forever suddenly closed down.
I have had to reinvent my business to try to keep my practice open.
Having said that, I read the thank you”s in the Record-Bee and I am astounded to see Bruno”s Shop Smart constantly being thanked for participating in some form or another for its donations to this community”s causes. Second in line is The Grocery Outlet.
We have another grocery store in town that seems to be full of cars all the time, yet I never see them mentioned in the thank you letters.
I believe this store has a yearly budget of $2,000 for the community and when it”s reached, tough luck. I have never heard of anyone who has actually gotten a donation from that store.
So I guess my comment on this is shop where you ask for a donation; support the people who support us in our community. I know I”m more likely to give a gift certificate for a massage to my clients than someone who”s never been to me.
