The issue of climate change has tragically become a partisan issue. Republicans such as Mr. Ridgel deny that record floods, hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, receding glaciers and polar ice caps are the result of humans messing with Mother Nature. Democrats such as Al Gore, while not great scientists themselves, tend to know better. Gore has listened to the vast majority of top climate scientists while Ridgel relies on an old friend and his experience in Dallas in 1936.
The science is evolving and global warming is now better described as climate change. Some forecasts have indicated this change is increasing even more than predicted. Other countries are more aware and are taking steps to protect their population. Vancouver, B.C. is building new sea walls around the city, anticipating rising sea levels. Europe is leading the way in reducing greenhouse gases. Not preparing for the future is folly.
