Winter Music Fest tickets now on sale
LAKEPORT — The Lake County Arts Council is presenting the 19th edition of the Winter Music Fest, 7 p.m. Feb. 26 and 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport. Winter Music Fest is a fundraiser for the Lake County Arts Council. This year”s festival will showcase Lake County musicians.
According to publicist Xian Yeagan, while the music is of varied styles, the vaudeville format of the last few years has been dropped for this show. It will be in a concert format, led by MC Bert Hutt.
Tickets for this program are now available at the Main Street Gallery, at the Soper-Reese box office and at Catfish Books in Lakeport and at Lower Lake Coffee in Lower Lake. Reserved seats are available only from the Soper-Reese box office, 263-0577 or www.soperreesetheatre.com.

?The Turning Point” to be screened Saturday
MIDDLETOWN — A free showing of the film “The Turning Point: A Return to Community,” takes place at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church, located at 11581 Armstrong St.

?Gasland” at Second Sunday Cinema
CLEARLAKE — Second Sunday Cinema kicks off its fith year with a screening of “Gasland,” 6 p.m. Sunday at the Clearlake Community United Methodist Church, 14521 Pearl Ave. in Clearlake.
The documentary explores the process of “fracking,” in which water, with about 65 toxic chemicals added to it, is forced into shale deposits to fracture the shale and release natural gas. According to filmmaker Josh Fox, these toxic chemicals end up in streams, wells and household taps. The film has been nominated for an Academy Award in Best Documentary for 2011.
Lake County resident Cheri Holden will be speaking on issues of concern involving water and the environment in Lake County, following the film.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for snacks and socializing.
Screening of ?Eclipse” in ?Twilight” series
LAKEPORT ? Lakeport Library”s teen volunteer Christy Zurcher invites all “Twilight” fans to a screening of “Eclipse,” third in the “Twilight” series, 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the library, 1425 N. High St. in Lakeport.
Love and danger mix in “Eclipse,” when Bella Swann (Kristen Stewart), must choose between the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob the werewolf (Taylor Lautner). What will happen when Bella makes her decision, when a wrong move could trigger disaster for all concerned?

As a bonus “Twilight” feature, the library”s traveling exhibit “A Forks Scrapbook” will return to the library. The exhibit, which has traveled to libraries in Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties, displays photographs and other materials from Bella Swann”s hometown of Forks, Wash. “Twilight” fans will see the locations that Stephenie Meyer”s books made famous, locations that legions of ?Twilight” fans flock to see.
Soper-Reese Community Theatre hosts Third Friday Live
LAKEPORT ? Soper-Reese Community Theatre presents the second show in its new Third Friday Live series at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 with headliner Paula Samont? accompanied by Tom Aiken, pianist.
Opening for Samont? is Bob Culbertson, master of the Chapman Stick, a 12-string instrument with bass and guitar elements.

Mendocino College seeks 10-minute scripts
UKIAH — Mendocino College is currently seeking short plays by local authors to be produced on campus this spring.
English professor Jody Gehrman and acting teacher Maria Monti will use short plays written by local authors to give directing, acting and writing students a hands-on experience of the joys and challenges of working with new scripts, which will be produced in the college”s annual New Plays Festival.
This production of student-written scripts is now in its ninth year and the event has become a highlight of the college”s annual theater season.
Anybody residing in Lake, Sonoma or Mendocino counties is eligible to submit an original play. The deadline for submissions is Valentine”s Day, Feb. 14.
There are no limitations in terms of theme or content, but small casts of two to five characters and minimal technical requirements are recommended for optimal chances at production. LAKEPORT — Free proctering is available to students who need a proctor for online college exams at the Lakeport Library, 1425 High St. Proctors are generally available on Thursday afternoons. EcoArts accepting entries for Outdoor Sculpture Walk
MIDDLETOWN — EcoArts of Lake County invites artists to apply for a spot in the ninth annual EcoArts: Lake County Sculpture Walk at the 107-acre Middletown County Trailside Park. Submission applications must be received by March 15.
Organizers will choose temporary works with strong artistic merit made from and/or relating to nature. The sculptures will be sited along both sides of a 3/8-mile central trail through meadows and woodland. Works will be installed from May 21 through 29 and be removed Oct. 8 through 16. A large public reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 at the park.
There is a $15 submission fee for each entry; however, EcoArts will waive the fees for schools and community groups. Applications and information is also available at the Lake County Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery, 325 N. Main Street in Lakeport.

LLHS to host Renaissance festivities
LOWER LAKE — The Lower Lake High School music program presents a Renaissance dinner feast. The two-day event takes place March 4 and 5 in the multi-purpose room.
The menu features wassail cup, pottage, English roasted turkey, sausage, string beans and sweets.

ukiaHaiku Festival accepting submissions
UKIAH — North Coast poets of all ages are invited to submit haiku poems to the ninth annual ukiaHaiku festival and competition.
Submissions are free-of-charge except for the Jane Reichhold International Prize category, which has a fee of $5 for up to three poems. Awards in this category will be given in the amounts of $100, $50 and $25 for first-, second- and third-place respectively.
Winning poems in all categories will also be published in a booklet that will be awarded to winners as well as sold to the general public.
The festival and awards ceremony will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. May 1 at SPACE Theater, located at 508 W. Perkins St. at Bush Street in Ukiah.
