Are job training programs moving to Napa?

As a Lake County resident, former employee and previous local business owner who lives on Cobb, I am alarmed and troubled that our Board of Supervisors is endorsing a plan to turn over Lake County”s job training programs to Napa County”s Welfare Agency.

I understand that this proposed change is under review by the State of California”s Workforce Investment Board and the last chance for public comment is Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Sacramento.

What I don”t understand is why a meeting wasn”t held locally so local businesses could have their say in an open forum. I have a few questions and am not sure why the media hasn”t had at least some of these questions, if not more. I believe the Board of Supervisors and the residents of Lake County deserve to know the answers before a decision is made.

How can Lake County residents in need of job assistance benefit from this move to Napa? They need experienced, local counselors and job placement individuals working with businesses to help Lake County residents in this recession. How can bureaucrats in Sacramento know what is best foe Lake County? Why isn”t the media looking into the supervisors” support of this proposal? Will the participants receive the same level of service and respect when dealing with a welfare agency? What will happen to the current workers at the local One Stop office? If the current employees are laid off, this proposed change will increase Lake County”s already high unemployment rate. Is this change really in the best interest of Lake County residents? I don”t think so.

You can learn more information by going to www.cwib.ca.gov. If you can”t attend the meeting you can contact the Board of Supervisors and let your voice be heard.
