LAKE COUNTY — Snowfall overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning has caused numerous road and school closures throughout Lake County.

Caltrans reports the following closures to Highway 29, as of 10:50 a.m.: from 5.5 miles south of the Lake-Napa county border to Highway 175 in Middletown and from Highway 281 (Red Hills Road) to Kelseyville.

The California Highway Patrol reports that additional Highway 29 closures include between Kitts Corner and Seigler Canyon Road on the Glasgow Grade and between Spruce Grove Road North and Spruce Grove Road South on the Coyote Grade.

Lake County Road Superintendent Stephen Stangland said that essentially “the entire Cobb Mountain area is closed,” referring to Highway 175 and the majority of county roads.

There are currently no reported closures to highways 53 or 20, as of 10:50 a.m.

Additional closures to major county roads include Elk Mountain Road, Bartlett Springs Road and Point Lakeview Road, Stangland said.

The county currently has 30 workers plowing different sections of roadways in Clearlake, Lower Lake, Kelseyville and Cobb, and Caltrans has crews addressing highway accessibility issues in the county, according to Stangland.

Stangland said the county”s process is to clear major roads and then address smaller residential roads. “I want people to know that we”re doing everything humanly possible within our means to get to their street as soon as we possibly can,” he said.

The county”s Office of Education reported as of 10:50 a.m. that schools are closed in the following areas: Cobb, Lower Lake, Kelseyville and Clearlake. No reported closures to schools in Middletown, Hidden Valley Lake, Lakeport or Upper Lake, the office said.

There have been reports of downed power lines and fallen trees in various areas, including Clearlake and Cobb, and numerous accidents and reports of cars off of roadways throughout the south and west county, between Kelseyville and Clearlake.

Stangland said he advises county residents to “drive with extreme caution and drive only if absolutely necessary.”

Weather-related closures will be updated as new information arrives.
