LAKEPORT — A judge Friday delayed the preliminary hearing for local insurance agent Glenn A. Neasham, who was charged in December with one felony count of theft from an elder or dependent adult exceeding $950.

Neasham pleaded not guilty to the felony charge and denied the two special allegations against him on Feb. 7.

The results of a California Department of Insurance investigation allege that Neasham, who operates Neasham Financial, Insurance and Retirement Planning in Lakeport, acted illegally when he sold a $175,000 annuity to a local 83-year-old woman in February 2008.

Judge Richard C. Martin granted a prosecution request to delay the preliminary hearing, which was scheduled to start Tuesday, until mid-March because of the unavailability of a material witness.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin the week of March 14 in a department to be announced. Neasham will next appear in court on March 11 for hearing assignment.
