LAKE COUNTY — University of California representatives pronounced a North Coast agritourism workshop to be a success.

“It was great, well attended,” Rachel Elkins, pomology farm advisor in Lake and Mendocino counties said. “There were about 70 people there.

“There was a good group of panelists,” Elkins added. “Several people thanked us for a good program.”

The workshop was one of five taking place throughout California, coordinated by the University of California (UC) Small Farm Program (SFP). The primary goal of the “Growing Agritourism” workshops was professional development and networking for everyone involved in local agritourism according to the SFP website.

“We were thrilled to see everybody get together and make connections,” Penny Leff, agritourism coordinator at the UC Small Farm Program said.

The next workshop in the series takes place Wednesday in Tehama County.

Leff said that a follow-up event will take place at a farm or ranch that is running an agritourism business; information will be posted on the SFP website at http://sfp.ucdavis.edu/.

Leff added that people who are interested in visiting an agritourism site can visit the California Agricultural Tourism Directory, http://calagtour.org/. Farms and ranches that offer agritourism enterprises can be added to the directory free of charge and can also submit events to its calendar.
