CLEARLAKE — In response to the damage caused by last week”s storm activity, Clearlake Public Works is extending its assistance to city residents to help clean up the green waste accumulated as a result downed trees.
Public Works Director Doug Herren said this will be an ongoing service contingent upon storm activity.
Residents who are willing to cut up green waste, such as trees and brush, can transport it to the Public Works yard for disposal. Staff will accumulate the green waste and begin chipping it for green compost to be used throughout the city. The Public Works yard is located off Airport Road adjacent to the old airport/water park property.
Herren said curb side chipping services will also be provided for those who cannot transport the green waste material. The city will be depending upon the honor system in providing these services. “This primarily pertains to people who can”t afford to dispose of the green waste materials themselves,” he said. “This is not an opportunity to for people to clean out their backyards. This is for debris that has accumulated because of the storms.”
Herren said people who would like to utilize the curb side chipping service can put their green waste in a visible location near the curb, but out of the roadway. He said as Public Works crews see the piles, they will do the chipping as time and workloads allow. Residents can also call Clearlake City Hall at 994-8201 and leave their address to be added to the service list.
Residents who have refuse pick-up should continue to utilize that service. Interim City Administrator Stephen Albright said this chipping service is a supplement, not an alternative to refuse hauling services.
