Homelessness Marathon taking place today
LAKE COUNTY — Non-commercial, community radio station KPFZ 88.1 FM is presenting a Homelessness Marathon, live from the streets of Kansas City, Mo., which began at 4 p.m. today. The marathon will continue until 4 a.m. Thursday.
This is a nationally syndicated program, augmented by phone calls from around the nation. The KPFZ audience will also be able to participate during the call-in portions of the program.
In addition, in the days leading up to and the days following the Homelessness Marathon, many local KPFZ programmers (both music and talk shows) will be doing homeless themes and discussing the homeless situation in Lake County. “Since there are no homeless shelters in the county and other information is somewhat vague, it is difficult to assess the actual depth of the problem locally ? although all agree that it exists in troubling numbers,” station director Andy Weiss said, who encouraged residents to listen to KPFZ and learn more.
KPFZ is also gathering canned and packaged goods for donation to the food bank to assist the homeless in Lake County. Residents can drop donations by the studios, 149 N. Main St. in Lakeport, or call the office at 263-3640 to make other arrangements.
