I recently read in your paper about a problem with my neighbor, Steve Brookes. I hope you will print this about him as well.
Steve had told me to call him if I needed help for my husband who was not well. I called him and he was at my door a short time later. My husband had fallen down and Steve helped him to his feet. His wife, a gifted nurse, came with him and checked my husband to make sure he was not hurt. This happened in the middle of the night more than once.
Like the event in the paper about Steve, I did something that could have been dangerous. My hearing is not the best and my car motor is very quiet, so when I stop I usually touch the accelerator to make sure the car has been turned off.
This time I got out and hurried into the church where I was parked without checking. Fortunately a fellow church member heard the car running, turned it off, put it in park and brought me the keys.
I was thankful that no one was hurt in my case, nor Steve”s. I know we will both be more careful in the future.
My son often says that nobody is perfect. Steve Brookes and I may have helped to prove the accuracy of this statement. In any event, I have an appointment to see if my hearing can be improved.
