LAKE COUNTY — Snow blanketed the Northshore and higher elevations in Lake County Friday, somewhat contrasting last week”s winter storm.
Snow covered streets in Lakeport and Upper Lake Friday morning while roads in Middletown, Clearlake and Lower Lake were largely unimpeded, a significant difference from one week ago when snowfall forced road closures throughout the south county while many north county streets were snow-free.
Areas in Kelseyville and Cobb received multiple inches of snowfall Friday morning much like the week before.
All school districts but one were closed Friday, according to the Lake County Office of Education (LCOE) — Middletown Unified School District operated on a two-hour delay. Cobb Elementary School, which is in the Middletown district, was closed Friday.
The Lucerne school district was closed for the first time in 21 years, the LCOE said.
Caltrans reported no state highway closures as of Friday night, though chains or snow tires were required on portions of highways 29 and 175.
The majority of county roads remained open as county crews worked throughout the day to plow and sand streets, according to county Road Superintendent Stephen Stangland. Crews will be available to work over the weekend as needed, Stangland said.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 50-percent chance of snowfall throughout most of the county Saturday, cold overnight temperatures and sunny conditions Sunday. Stangland said the possibility of overnight freezing of roads is a “major concern” for the weekend.
