CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to evade police. Michael Eugene Brandon, 27, was booked into Lake County Jail on several charges including hit-and-run.
According to Clearlake Interim Police Chief Craig Clausen, an officer-initiated a traffic stop on the white Jeep Cherokee Brandon was driving at about 1 a.m. in the area of 34th and Phillips avenues.
Brandon failed to stop and allegedly accelerated his vehicle to speeds greater than 60 mph.
Clausen said when Brandon got to the end of 37th Avenue near Park Avenue his vehicle lost traction. Brandon then put his vehicle in reverse and allegedly rammed the patrol car pursuing him. Clausen said Brandon then ran from the vehicle and was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit.
Subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly revealed drugs and drug paraphernalia. Brandon was booked into jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, controlled substance paraphernalia; transportation of a controlled substance, evading a police officer, hit-and-run and assault on a peace officer.
Clausen said he was also booked on an outstanding warrant issued by Lake County Superior Court.
